We Always Need Safe, Caring Barn Homes
We often have, or know of, cats that are in need of caring barn homes. Usually, these cats were not socialized at an early age or they have behavioral issues preventing them from placement as indoor cats, but they have become dependent on humans for food and shelter.
Barn cats make excellent “mousers” in their new barn homes. The cats that we place in barns are all spayed or neutered, combo tested (neg/neg) and up to date on vaccinations. We will deliver the cat(s) and set up a cage for a 2 – 3 week acclimation period. The time they spend confined in a large cage (48x30”) gives them the opportunity to get used to the sights, sounds and smells associated with their new home. They also learn that no harm is coming to them and that they are being fed. The acclimation period is crucial to the success of the cats staying at the barn after their release.
The new caregivers are responsible for providing food, water and litter scooping on a daily basis during the acclimation period, and food and water after their release. We prefer to place barn cats in two’s to help alleviate the stress of their relocation. There is no fee for barn cats; however, donations are gratefully accepted.
